In the early light of the dawn, I captured this solitary Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) in deep reflection, contemplating the start of a new day.
There is nothing really complex about this image, but I like the way that it conveys the mood of that moment, a moment when the world seemed to be totally tranquil, uncluttered by the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
I love the early morning.

Great photo and analogy. Maybe that is why the Lord tells us to think about and pray to Him in the morning before our minds get busy.

It’s hard to believe this scene is minutes away from the Nation’s Capital!
Occasionally I see a blue heron walking along the banks of the San Lorenzo River here in Santa Cruz, a majestic looking bird in its own way.
When they are on the ground, Great Blue Herons always seem a little gawky to me. In the air though, they seem so graceful and have an impressive wingspan.
