As the seasons begin to change, many dragonfly species are disappearing, so it is a real delight to spot the hardy survivors, like this male Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) that I photographed during a recent visit to nearby Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge. Blue Dashers are often among the earliest dragonflies to appear in the spring and among the last to disappear in the fall.
With a bit of luck, I will continue to see dragonflies for another month or a bit longer, but there is no question in my mind that the end of the dragonfly season is drawing near.
