As the new year dawns, it seems appropriate to post this photo I took last weekend at my local marsh, as the early morning sun peeked through the trees and cast its first rays of light onto the cattails.
Best wishes to all for a happy, safe, and blessed 2014.

Happy New Year Michael 🙂
Thanks, Happy New Year to you too.
Same to you Mike!
Reminds me of summers when I was a kid. We called them punks, lit them and used them for keeping insects away. A nice aroma, and magical in young thought. The warmth of this capture, brought on by the soft brown texture of the cattail, and the sun, of course, belies what we are expecting here in Nj in the next 48 hours – frigid cold and a lot o snow. I like the summer thoughts better! Again, Happy New Year, Mike. M
Ah, cattails. What a wonderful invention! They have had a special place in my heart for longer than I can remember. They persist all through the winter like brown candles waiting for someone to light them to dispel the cold gloom. And when spring comes, they flourish, swell, and dispel their seeds. What’s not to like?
An interesting photo, for sure. Appropriate, too!
