The streets in the pedestrian area of Vienna have spectacular displays of lighting for Christmas that are simple and elegant. Each of the streets has its own motif that is repeated in white or gold lights. My favorites are the giant chandeliers in one of the main streets, but others are equally impressive. Do you have a favorite?
I am including a selection of photos in a gallery to show you some of the different lighting schemes—click on a photo to see the photos in the gallery at higher resolution.

beautiful ! x
Thanks. I love night photos and the Christmas season is a wonderful time to try to improve my skills.
I know, night photos just have a different mood about them. Particularly at Christmas Time 🙂
Looks like they go all out!
They certainly do go all out. Some of the Christmas markets are more garish, with muli-colored tlights and flashy displays, but I prefer the simple elegance of the white lights. I think that New Year’s Eve is also a time for big celebrations in Vienna, although I have never been here to see them.
Beautiful! I love Vienna, but have never went there during the holidays. Looks amazing
Thanks. Vienna is magical at any time of the year, but there is something special about the sights and sounds of Christmas here.
These are truly wonderful – must try London soon
I kind of like the last shot. Almost like lighted snow falling.
The lighting was really cool. Unlike some of the lighting I see on houses that look like large icicles, these do look almost like a wall of snowflakes.
Beautiful, beautiful photos. Thanks for taking us on your trip!!
Thanks. Glad to have you along. I got all my work done on this trip and managed to have a little time to sightsee. Still, I feel like I need to spend some time now in the wild outdoors.
So very pretty…very elaborate!
Thanks. It’s hard to believe that a municipality would go to all that trouble. I wonder if the merchants help to pay the cost for the lighting.
