Back home from a week overseas in Vienna, I felt the need to reconnect with nature and headed off to the marsh at Huntley Meadows Park early this morning. The weather was cold and gray, but I was able to get some shots of birds, like this Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus), surveying the frozen pond from an overhanging branch.
It’s nice to be home.

Cute!
Thanks. We don’t have as much snow as you do in Ohio, but it looks like we both had the same idea today of posting images of birds in wintery situations.
Indeed. 🙂 Ours melted a bit but we have more coming down right now.
Always a smile for wrens. They work hard around my house holding our arth pop in check.
welcome back! missed your nature photos but enjoyed the brief glimpses of Vienna at Christmas.
Thanks. Vienna was nice and I tried to capture some of its beauty in my photos, but I guess I have gotten so used to my walks in the woods that I really missed them.
I love this shot – sweet Wren
Thanks. I was so happy when I saw this bird and watched it for about ten minutes.
Poor little wren, I hope he got some sunshine later in the day.
Unfortunately the wren did not get any real sunshine yesterday–it rained for hours later in the day. I think we may have a little bit of sunshine today, appropriately enough on Sunday.
He looks like he was thinking about hopping down onto that ice.
I agree – nothing is better than being at home. Love your wren. They’re so awesome.
That ice makes a great backdrop and how can you help but like that stern look?
We don’t have the ice and snow as a backdrop as often as you do, so I was happy to be able to take advantage of it. I wonder if I look stern when I am cold. It sure did look like that bird was keeping active just to stay warm.
