To celebrate the change of seasons, I stitched up this delightful little cross stitch pattern called Happy Fall Acorn from Robin Pickens. It was a pretty easy stitch, but I felt a need to mark the fall season, my favorite season of the year, because of the cooling weather and colorful foliage. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, fall begins with the autumnal equinox this evening, a day later than in most years.
The second photo shows just the stitching, but I decided that I wanted to stage a “glamor” shot with some of the acorns and leaves from a large oak tree adjacent to my townhouse in Alexandria, Virginia, resulting in the first photo. I am not sure if it was due to squirrel activity or the wind, but my front porch has recently been littered with fallen oak leaves and acorns, so it was easy to collect them
I realize that most of my readers are more interested in photography than in cross stitching, but I encourage you to consider giving stitching a try. I personally find it relaxing and almost meditative. In this world that is becoming increasing digital, there is something really special about making something tangible with your own hands.

Thanks, Suzette. I often am so interested in stitching itself, that I don’t get around to actually doing something with the finished stitching. It’s kind of the same thing with my photos–I rarely have them printed, though I think I should do so more often so that I can enjoy them every day. 🙂
In a local morning newspaper I read that the Autumnal Equinox begins this evening at 8:05 PM. Be that as it may, I think it is a waste of today’s daylight hours to simply wait. I am delighted that this lovely post seems to agree! Your talent and dedication to the art of cross stitching, once again, yielded a beautiful result. I must add that I love the “glamor” shot. Years ago Benjamin and I would gather fallen acorns in my backyard that were placed amidst my Fall decorating projects. When I saw this email amidst my inbox the perfect quote to share popped into my mind. Upon reading the post I thought of one about acorns that I had taught to Benjamin. Thank-YOU, Mr. Mike!!
