Beautiful post Mike, thank you. And the flower/butterfly are gorgeous. I’ve shared on twitter.
Thanks so much, Liz. I am reprising images from the past, images of beauty, especially of sunflowers, in an effort to restore some semblance of peace in my shattered soul and to counterbalance the increasingly horrific news from Ukraine with which we are continuously bombarded.
It’s a real challenge to keep a healthy balance, I feel that too and all beauty and goodness is very welcome! As you know, until recently I’ve not experienced mainline church tradition, liturgy, etc but have come to appreciate the value of grief/lament. Are there any particular passages that you find helpful at this time.. like in the BCP or NZ Prayer Book (which is online so I can access that; I haven’t searched for BCP so I’m not sure if it’s online).
Just popped back to say after I asked you this, I saw the Scottish Prayer you’d shared on FB so there was an answer waiting for me already! If you wish to suggest anything else tho’ please do 🙂 You might enjoy hearing a poem I found today – I recommend listening to the poet reading it via the sound file although the words are posted there to read as well: Held Together And Re-Membered: a response to psalm 31 | Link: https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/2020/07/09/held-together-and-re-membered-a-response-to-psalm-31/
Thank you, Mike. We really do need reminders of peace and love at this time. Flowers and butterflies certainly give us that. We do continue to pray for peace and the Ukranian people.
Thanks, Ann. The whole world is suffering from the consequences of this unprovoked invasion. The attack needs to stop, but we seem helpless in figuring out how to make that happen. At least we can pray.
Lovely photo, Mike. Thanks for the reminder.
And last nights shelling of Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant shows the madness of this conflict, putting the whole Continent in danger. These are very scary times.
🙏
I wish more could be done than praying. If it worked, this criminal action would be over.
We feel powerless to do anything and watch in horror as we wonder whether we are starring at the start of WW3.
