I never got around to posting a shot of my final Halloween Pennant dragonfly (Celithemis eponina) of the 2018 season, so today seems an appropriate time to do so. I spotted this tattered beauty on 29 September at Ben Brenman Park, a small suburban park not far from where I live in Alexandria, Virginia.
Happy Halloween!

Very cool dragonfly!
It’s one of my favorites–I love the color and the pattern on its wings. Alas the season for most dragonflies is now over, with only a few hardy survivors of only a couple of species remaining.
Very Nice Mike! I am still seeing a few dragonflies here in NJ. I had not noticed them this late in the season here before.
Thanks, Reed. This has been a strange season for dragonflies where I live, with odd weather patterns and excessive amounts of rain. It’s interesting to hear that you still have dragonflies in NJ–I would have thought they would be all gone by now.
it is Very cool dragonfly
Thanks. It is one of my favorite dragonflies.
