In the dim, gloomy light on Monday at Huntley Meadows Park, the birds looked like shadows as they flew in and out of the trees. When I saw a flash of yellow, though, I realized that one of the larger ones was a Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus), and I tracked it until I was able to capture this image.
I never cease to be amazed by the mixture of colors and patterns on the body and head of this beautiful bird, which I hope to feature again soon in a better light, assuming the weather and my schedule will cooperate.
