On days when no other birds are visibly active, I can always count on the sparrows to be hard at work, often accompanying their work with a song. As I watched, this sparrow (which seems to be either a Song or Swamp Sparrow) took a break from his activities and burst into song, as though compelled to share his joy and excitement with the rest of the world.
Wouldn’t it be great if we felt that way too and felt free enough to share it with others?

Beautiful color — and you got him in full song!
I try to photograph almost any bird that I see when I have a reasonably clear shot. The drab brown birds often turn out to quite colorful when you look at them closely.
I can’t wait until its warm enough to open the windows at dawn and hear the birds. It’s one of my very favorite things to do.
what a cute little fellow, and we can almost hear him.
Others might not like song bursting forth from a person/family with absolutely no musical ability. (We do have artistic talents.)
Point taken–you just have to choose your moments sometimes.. My personal view, though, is that singing should not be reserved for only those who do it really well.
Great shots Mike!! I wish I could hear him as well 🙂
Thanks. I can already tell that the days are getting longer and it seems like there are more birds singing. Bird songs make me happy!
