Bluebirds always make me happy and I will rarely pass up an opportunity to photograph one—I simply love that complementary color combination of blue and orange. I was doubly delighted on Tuesday to capture this image of an Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) perched on branches that formed a natural frame that highlighted his beauty.

They are pretty birds, Mike. Great capture.
Thanks, Dan. Although most of the bluebirds are a bit drab in the winter months, occasionally I will one across one with brilliant blue feathers.
Wonderful photo, Mike, and how fun to come across a bluebird in winter. I saw some W. bluebirds here in Calif. last week and there’s something special about seeing them in winter, like a spot of summer just popping in.
Thanks, Jet. I think that ours may stay with us all winter, or at least I am hoping that is the case. For me, the cardinal is the bird that adds a bright pop of color during the dim days of winter. My favorite photo-op is when I can capture a cardinal in the snow, as in this image from a few years ago. https://michaelqpowell.com/2015/02/24/cardinal-in-the-snow/
Lovely against the sky too.
Thanks, Susan. We were blessed to have a sunny day, which recently has been a rare occurrence.
This is a gorgeous portrait of a charming bird. I love the way that curving branch is creating a frame around the bird.
Dry nice Mike! Always fun to see & photograph Bluebirds! Enjoyed seeing your Bluebird image!
Nice shot! It’s been too long since I’ve seen one of these…
