Normally I try to photograph the moon when it is full, but early Tuesday morning the skies were so clear when I looked out my front door, that I couldn’t help but grab my camera and step outside to capture this image, one of the few times that I have taken an outdoor shot while wearing slippers.
I posted this image on Facebook and Steve Gingold, a fellow photographer and blogger, noted that, “the full moon is always great but a partial like this offers better detail with the sidelighting and you got some nice detail.” Thanks, Steve.
Steve is a wonderful nature photographer who lives in New England—be sure to check out his blog at Steve Gingold Nature Photography Photography Blog, where at the moment he is featuring winter images full of snow and ice.

Beautiful post
That’s a fabulous photo. I love looking at the moon. Thanks for sharing!
I love trying to photograph the moon, though with the pandemic restrictions I have not been going out much after dark, so I sometimes forget to look to the sky at night.
😍😍😍
Beautiful capture!
Thanks, Jazz.
Very nice, Mike!
Thanks, Ellen.
Nice moon image Mike! I usually like a full moon, but never thought of the side lighting for more detail. I will have to try that! And Steve’s blog is Great and informative!
Thanks, Reed. I rarely think about shooting the moon except when I read about a super moon, but I too will have to remember the advice about side lighting. Steve and I are definitely kindred spirits when it comes to nature photography.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip to visit Steve’s blog. His photos are awesome!
You are welcome, Suzanne. Steve and I are definitely kindred spirits when it comes to nature photography and I love his photos. I grew up in Massachusetts where he lives and his photos help to remind me of my younger days.
Beautiful 🙂
Thanks, Alexa.
