Need a blast of bright color? Here you go, a shot I took of the inside of a gorgeous red tulip blooming this morning in the garden of my neighbor and photography mentor Cindy Dyer. This view straight down into the tulip reminds me of the kaleidoscopes that fascinated me endlessly when I was a youth. I managed to frame this shot almost exactly as I had envisioned, so I decided not to crop it at all, which is pretty unusual for me.

Nice and colorful Mike!
Wow! That’ll pop anyone out of a funk!
Wow, that got my attention!
Beautiful 💕
Oh yes, that blast of colour is a great start to my day. There was an old kaleidoscope in the toy box when I was little and I loved it – probably the start of my love of colour!
May I use this tulip photo in a post I’ll be doing soon-ish?
Absolutely, Liz, you may use it.
No crop necessary at all. Blast away!
Most cheerful, Mike, and it is just like those kaleidescopes we had as kids!
Absolutely spectacular-Wow!!
What a phenomenal photograph and a phenomenal idea too! The enlarged photo, a habit that I acquired from Benjamin, is extraordinary…I used phenomenal twice so a synonym seemed a better choice! Thank-you, Mr. Mike!
Thanks, Ellen. I was thrilled to be able to capture so much detail of the tulip. I love using my macro lens–it is like opening up a whole new world when I get in really close.

It’s like one of those photos where you try to recognize what it is, but (usually) can’t.
The world changes when you get in really close with a macro lens and familiar objects can often become almost abstract forms with shapes, colors, and patterns.
Definitely reminiscent of the kaleidoscope toys… cool!
I was having an uncommonly rough week. I have soooooo enjoyed my restorative getaway lost for a while in your blog. I’m so glad you use and share your talents. ❤️
