Shining brightly from behind the leaves, the sun revealed their autumnal beauty.
This is completely different from my “normal” photography, but when I stumbled upon this blaze of color while exploring Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, I couldn’t help but try to capture a sense of the moment.

Gorgeous!
You captured it for certain!! Kudos!
Lovely image!
Very nice lines, colors and shadows, Mike!
Thanks, Ellen. It’s always a challenge for me to think of ways to capture the fall foliage. Unlike other parts of the country, we tend not to have wide expanses of spectacular color, so I don’t usually think it terms of wide-angle shots. Instead I like to try to capture mini landscapes like this one.
Way to work with what is available!
That’s a magnificent photo Mike! The colours, strong shadows, cobweb, and the pattern of chew marks on one leaf, all contribute to a stunning and dramatic image. Spectacularly well done! 🙂 🙂
Thanks, Liz, for sharing your reactions. It was the lighting and the color that initially caused me to take the shot. It was only later when I was reviewing the images on my computer that the wonderful details you noted were revealed. Like your recent shadow image this was a case of capturing a relatively ordinary moment in a unique and creative way.
Don’t you love these moments.. absolute treasures! 🙂
Great shot Mike, it’s nice to try different things at times.
Thanks for the encouragement. It’s a fun challenge to step out of my comfort zone from time to time and try different subjects or different gear. I try to keep my eyes always open to new possibilities.
It can grab you!
