Reverie
April 4, 2017 by Mike Powell
Basking in the rays of yesterday’s early morning sunlight, this female Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) seemed to be caught up in a moment of reverie as she contemplated the start of a new day at Huntley Meadows Park.

That thicket of scrappy, brown foliage on the right almost echos the hairstyle of the bird. Lovely warm tones in this image too.
I love the early morning light. I had to wait and wait for her to turn her head toward the light, but eventually she did. I see what your mean about the vegetation–I was thinking about how nice it was that it was in focus, because it was on the same plane as the eye of the duck.
