Whenever a vulture is circling overhead, I like to make sure I move about from time to time. This Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) at Huntley Meadows Park didn’t seem to be paying too much attention to me, but you can never be too cautious, especially if you have not taken a shower that morning.

I suppose you are OK, if you’re not a turkey? I’ve had a large flock of them floating lazily above me one summer day. They are beautiful, till you see their heads.
I think that they eat only dead things, but you never know for sure. The wing spans of vultures is might impressive, even if they are not exactly beautiful to behold.
Yes, dead things only, to the best of my knowledge. Like you said, bets to keep moving.
They are impressive, especially when circling low above the tree tops.
Great shot! We see a lot of turkey vultures here. It took me a while to learn to distinguish between them and eagles when in flight. About a month after I emigrated to America, I was driving along a road and had to stop because a vulture was choking down on some roadkill. It was a jolting reminder that I wasn’t in Scotland any more.
They look huge! Nice capture Mike. Are they bigger than eagles?
Great captures, Mike. Yeah, keep moving.
Thanks, Dan. 🙂
