Summer is definitely here. In the Washington D.C. area where I live, summer means endless stretches of hot, humid weather. Even the insects seem to move more slowly, like this Eastern Amberwing dragonfly (Perithemis tenera) that I recently photographed as it languidly buzzed around the vegetation at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland.

Thanks. Reed. Dragonflies are my favorite summer subject to photograph. There is something so cool about the way they fly and their amazing compound eyes just draw me in and enchant me.
Huh, I’m not sure why I thought the one I showed recently was one of these. They don’t look anything alike, which makes me wonder if the photo I used for comparison was mislabeled.
