For a change of pace I decided today to visit Green Spring Gardens, a historical county-run garden that always has lots of beautiful flowers. Some purple poppies were among my favorites. Several of them were in bloom, surrounded by a large number of seed pods. A honey bee and I were attracted to the same flower at the same time—the bee ignored me and busily went about its work.

Gorgeous, Mike, I like the striking colour, and composition with the spent poppy in the background. Very nice change of pace.
I can see why you were both drawn to that flower. The colour is absolutely incredible.
I visited a poppy-growing friend last weekend. Her flowers were finished, but the seed heeds were wonderful. I really like that you’ve included one here, with the flower.
This was one of the few shots that I post that I have not cropped at all. I liked the idea of having the out-of-focus seed head in the background and even placed the blooming poppy off-center to accommodate it.
That’s a beautiful color!
Thanks, Allen. I was pretty amazed by the color too.
Very nice picture. Honey bees are very interesting and complex, aren’t they! If you would like to visit my blog, you can see a few of my pictures of them! Excellent work!
