When Freckles heard the sound of a fire engine in the distance, she stopped playing and listened intently for a moment. She then leaned back her head and began to howl along with the sound of the siren. Who knew that Cocker Spaniels like to howl?
For the last two and a half weeks I have been taking care of Freckles while her owners have been on their honeymoon. It’s been a joy (and occasionally a challenge) having a dog in my life again. During this short time we have developed our own little routines and, among other things, I’ll miss her curling up around my feet as I use my laptop.

She’s a little sweetie
She definitely is–it’s going to be tough to give her back to her owners later today.
We’ve had a slightly different experience recently – our daughter moved out to find her independence and the dog has taken to crying at her bedroom door …poor baby
We get attached to them and they get attached to us. Change is tough for all of us.
That’s the very expression my cat gets when she hears the lid being taken off a can of food. Of course, my dad used to come to attention at the sound of a beer being opened, too, so there’s that. š
She is a much loved sweetie I thinks!! hehe…
Yeah. I would spoil her more, but apparently she has some kind of allergy and the vet is trying to figure out what she is allergic to. So I was given strict instructions not to give her human food! So I spoil her with snuggles.
You are very good with pet sitting Mike!
It reminds me, though, of how much I miss having my own dog. My schedule makes it a little tough to accommodate having one full-time.
What a cutie š
Beagles do the same. I remember a neighbor’s dog doing that when I was a boy.
Freckles is a beautiful dog!
I tried to get her to howl by imitating the sound of a fire truck, but she only did it when it was the real thing. Freckles is a real sweetheart. It was a little sad to return her to her owners. š
