Simple compositions are often the basis for my favorite images. My subject was a Blue Dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis), one of the most common dragonflies in our area. The vegetation on which it chose to perch was nothing special. Somehow, though, the shapes and colors of these elements work together to create an image that I find really pleasing.

Beautiful.
Thanks.
I often wondered if you ever tried to photograph a firefly at night. That seems quite challenging.
That definitely would be challenging. Either I’d have to have a whole field of them or I’d have to figure out a way to get really close to one.
Nice colors and lighting!
Some days I am really into shapes and colors and the subject itself becomes almost secondary. Thanks, Allen.
just wish I could get shots like this so full of detail
Good light helps a lot. It gives me more options for changing camera settings. Keep at it. Sharpness is only one aspect of a good shot and it’s not always important to get really detailed shots if you can capture the mood of the moment.
