When it comes to photographing birds, it doesn’t take much to make me happy. If I can get a clear shot of a bird with a relatively uncluttered background, that constitutes a good photograph for me. By that low standard, this image that I took a week ago is a successful one. My bird identification skills are still so weak that I won’t even hazard a guess at what kind of bird it is, but I like this modest image of this little bird.

Beautiful, it’s a female Goldfinch
Thanks, Joel, for the help with the identification. This was a case where I came upon the bird and had time to snap off only a single shot before it flew away.
My pleasure Mike, I love Goldfinches, I have a giant group that feed at my house all late summer long. Now they are gone, must have headed south … can’t say I blame them.
Excellent shot of the female, even though she has the subdued colors whe still is a cutie..:-)
I might have been able to identify the more colorful male of the species, but I’m generally clueless when it comes to birds.
I was the same way, than after taking a bunch of bird pics I started using a site called whatbird.com its a great and easy bird identification site. i also now have a nice collection of Audobon bird ID books too..:-)
