Raindrops on flowers are among my favorite things. Yes, I am a huge fan of The Sound of Music and as soon as I see drops of rain on the petals of a flower—it doesn’t have to be roses—Julie Andrews starts singing in my mind the memorable song “My Favorite Things” that begins with the words, “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…”
I captured these iris images yesterday morning in the garden of my dear friend and neighbor Cindy Dyer during a break in the rain. Right now there are probably at least thirty irises of various colors in the process of blooming in her wonderful garden, an endless source of delight for me when I feel a need to take some photos or just desire to lift my spirits.

😍😍😍😍😍 for your images and 😍😍😍😍😍 for your words
Thanks, Laura.
Wow. The detail you captured in these photos is breathtaking. Thanks for sharing them with us. I love the Sound of Music, too!
Thanks. I think we may both be part of a generation of kids who grew up with The Sound of Music. I can still recall the lyrics to many of the songs from the movie version of it.
Me too! I can’t watch it without singing along!
I am the same way with My Fair Lady. 🙂
Cindy’s irises and your photos are spectacular Mike, and I love the added interest of the raindrops. In NZ we have a lot of divaricating shrubs native to here, and they hold vast numbers of raindrops that look wonderful when the sun comes out after rain! I always thought it’d be nice to have a ‘raindrop garden’ utilising such plants ’cause we get a lot of rain down south so it’d definitely be worth doing, and would look nice after showers have gone!
Cindy and I both love to photograph raindrops. Here is a link to one of my favorites of her raindrops photos. https://cindydyer.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/single-file-raindrop-parade/
Funny how evenly spaced they are .. like buttons! 🙂
One of my favorites of all-time. I just watched it again recently and will sing the songs instantaneously with such pics as these! Thank you, Mike!
Beautiful images.
Wonderful shots Mike !
I always like seeing water drops on flowers.
Gorgeous images, Mike! Raindrops add the perfect touch.
Thanks, Eliza. Raindrops are endlessly fascinating. When they are bigger and globe-shaped, I love trying to capture reflections in them.
I like the colours and the waterdrops and the way the foreground is in focus and the way the background is a blur and the way you’ve captured a moment of pure, fresh springishness. Lovely job.
Sklugoo.
Thanks. I love your creation of the word “springishness” that captures well the feeling in the photos.
Well, Spring is the season for newness and renewal and so why not create a few new words to help it along. 🙂
Amen!
Very Nice Mike! Enjoyed seeing them!
Raindrops are amazing, except when they come in buckets full like today! Irises (or “flags” as Mom called them) are endless gorgeous. Cindy must have a huge yard to have that many varieties!
Cindy has an end unit townhouse (as do I) and she makes use of the space in front of her house and on the side and even has some beds in her back yard. She definitely maximizes the available space.
