How do you capture a mood? That was what I was trying to do when I photographed these winter cattails swaying gently in the breeze on Saturday at Huntley Meadows Park.
More than anything else, I was looking to nature to soothe my soul after what had been a traumatic week. As I focused on the cattails I could feel my heartbeat slow down and I was able to breathe more deeply.
We all need moments of respite and relaxation like this.

Yes. It has been frightening. Nice image. A welcome sharing of a far more gentle moment. Thanks! M
“Nature can bring you to stillness, that is its gift to you.” – Eckhart Tolle. Thank-you, Mr. Mike, for sharing the gift!
This photo is so warm and cosy looking that it is the perfect visual hug for a traumatic and stressful week. I love all the warm, brown hues and the way you’ve handled the lighting to accentuate that beautifully soft fluff of the cattails.
Thanks, Laura. I love characterization of the image as a “visual hug”–it fits perfectly, though I would prefer the real thing. 🙂
They are beautiful, Mike. I’m thankful to God for the peace only He can give, that he gave to you.

Thanks, Mitzy. Indeed, God often speaks in a still small voice. 🙂
Nature heals
The perfect antidote to trying–in vain–to fathom and digest the bull’s rushes.
Wonderfully clever comment, Gary.
Cattails are fabulous! Don’t miss the friendly whale I’ve just posted 🙂
Lovely. We are both so fortunate to have our respective parks near us during this time of staying at home.
Thanks, Nina. About the only times that I leave my house in my car are to go out taking photos or to go out to take photos. I usually try to time both types of excursions to avoid as many people as I can.
