Looking up into the trees at Huntley Meadows Park during a recent trip and lamenting the lack of brilliant fall foliage, I glanced down into the dark waters of the duckweed-spattered marsh and saw these wonderful abstract patterns of colorful shapes and textures. I love the fall.

If you look around, you will find beauty.
That is exactly my belief, Dan, and is one of the reasons why I am content to stay mostly local in my photography outings. I don’t need to travel hundreds or thousands of miles to find beautiful and interesting subjects to photograph.
Beauty can still be found even in these historically tough times. Thanks for sharing your gifts.
October is certainly one of my favorite months of the year!
Just when you were looking for fall colors, you found them in a different place. Wonderful message and festive photos, Mike.
Nice images Mike! The dark water makes the leaves stand out!
Thanks, Reed. The effect would definitely not be the same if the water were a lighter color or were transparent.
It’s been strange not to be able to celebrate my birthday in autumn, as I have become accustomed, and I love seeing your take on its details.
Thanks, Gary. The flipped seasonal schedule must feel strange for holidays too and particularly, as you noted, for your birthday if you are used to celebrating it in a way that includes outdoor activities. I will be on the lookout for other ways to capture the look and feel of autumn.
These are gorgeous! They would be beautiful as designs for fabric, dishes, rugs, blankets, etc. Or simply as art. Nature is the best artist.
Thanks, Nina. I had similar thoughts with these images and may have one of them printed on stretched canvas, my preferred way of displaying my photos these days. It is an easy way to make a bold statement without the expense and weight of mounting, matting, and framing a traditional print.
What a great idea! Where will you display it? (Post a photo of that if/when it happens!)
I would probably hang in on my wall. I have several 20″ x 30″ canvases on my wall as I look around the room, one of a fox and one of a dragonfly. These are pretty high quality ones and I can get one done for $40 plus shipping (I usually wait for a sale, when sometimes shipping is free). I will let you know and post a photo if/when I get one done. I tend to prefer the first image, but recognize it is a bit cluttered. Which one do you think would be best to print?
I agree, the first image is my favorite, if you can do only one.
The leaves look so nice with the dark water, Mike.
Thanks, Steve. I don’t think the photos would have worked without the dark water.
The first one is a doozy! Print! Print! Print!
I think I am ordering a print of the first shot (probably 20″ by 30″ or maybe 24″ by 36″) tomorrow while there is still a sale going on at the lab that I use. 🙂
