When this Common Five-lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus) is standing up, it looks pretty tall, but as the second image shows, it can get down so low that I don’t think that you could want to challenge it to a limbo contest.
How low can you go?

That’s something you’ll never see in New Hampshire!
I went poking around and found a fascinating PBS report about five-lined skinks in Vermont. (Check it out at http://www.vpt.org/clip?843). Apparently these little lizards are found in a few locations in Vermont and Connecticut, but not in New Hampshire.
Well that’s a beauty. I’m sure he’s glad to be there and not here – full coverage snow fall again today.
Yikes. Where does spring arrive there? In June?
It’s supposed to be 50F today so maybe today! This is a frustrating season.
A lizard doing limbo: you win the internet today.
Not fair! A real limbo requires staying on one’s (hind) feet and bending over backward, while walking forward, to go under the pole. I used to be able to do that, back in high school…
So true, Gary. This actually reminds me more of the low crawl that I had to do during Army basic training (but I needed alliteration for a more catchy title). As for the past, I’m not ready to dwell on the things that I used to be able to do that are beyond my current capabilities. 🙂
