It’s hard to imagine a simpler composition—a tiny damselfly in the green growth of the marsh—but I find real beauty and power in this image.
Look closely at this damselfly, which I think is a female Fragile Forktail (Ischnura posita), and you will see some amazing colors and details, all packed into a body that is only about an inch long.

The detail is pretty amazing and I love the information you provided.
That really is a thin damselfly. There are so many of them out in the marsh, I commend you on knowing one from another. Very nice photo, beautiful detail.
They really are beautiful little creatures that I always want to get closer to, just to see. Thanks for the opportunity to see this one a little better.
Gorgeous! Which camera and lens did you use for this picture?
Thanks. I used a Canon 50D DSLR and a Tamron 180mm macro lens (and shot this one handheld)
Beautiful and you must be very patient because they never stay still for me
Thanks. This damselfly seemed to just be relaxing in the shade and didn’t seem to mind my presence. The big challenge for me, however, was the fact that I had to lean over the edge of the boardwalk to get close enough for this shot, hoping that I wouldn’t fall into the marshy water.
At least you didn’t fall. The way my luck goes I would have 🙂
