Little kids get pretty excited about snow, but it’s hard to match the enthusiasm of a puppy as she propels herself face-first into the freshly fallen snow.
These shots show Freckles, a year-old Cocker Spaniel, a few seconds after she dove into the snow in my backyard. The yard had areas of sunshine and shadows and the snow appears white when Freckles was in the sun, as in the first image. The snow took on a bluish cast however, when the snow in the background was in the shadows. I liked the effect and cropped the second image to make the background more uniform, causing it to look a bit like a formal studio shot.

Beautiful pup. Is she yours ?
She belongs to a friend who is staying with me for a while, so she is part of the household (along with her “brother,” a rabbit called Pork Chop).
I’m surprised she stayed still long enough to snap the shutter! Puppies are such great fun. I like that second shot. It looks like she spotted a bird.
Oh, I had a tough time keeping her in the frame. She is easily distracted and kept running towards me. My backyard is pretty small, but fortunately it is enclosed.
Awwwwww too cute, pups are difficult to shoot like you said but that’s what digital cameras are for shoot lots and keep the best..:-)
We have a 5 month old Irish Setter who is just loving the snow. I have managed to get one good picture of her and a lot of “this is where Maddie was” pictures. This is a great one.
She’s gorgeous!
She’s really energetic and inquisitive and likes to get into everything—and really cute as you saw.
I especially love that first shot, Mike. I trust you shared a print with the Freckles’s folks–I’m sure they’ll treasure it for many years to come!
I haven’t gotten a print made yet, but have shared it electronically. I may surprise the owner with a print.
Adorable!
