I don’t ever go out shooting with the express intent of taking landscape shots, but sometimes when I am looking for wildlife to photograph, the natural beauty of the setting virtually compels me to try to capture it.
That was the case last week, when I was at the location where I had photographed the otter and the fox and happened to glance up into the sky. I was surprised to see how well the colors of the moon, which was pretty prominent for mid-morning, matched the colors of the clouds. It was almost like the moon was a perfectly round cloud.
I didn’t have a lot of room to maneuver in the thick underbrush to help me frame the shot better, so I tried to capture the scene in both portrait and landscape format. I think I like the first image a little better, but decided to include both views.

beautiful!
Thanks. It’s a different kind of subject matter than I usually shoot, but it’s nice to capture beauty whenever I can find it.
Your wildlife shots are amazing but I loved this one very much. It reminds me of a horror or mystery book cover – eerie, a little creepy and beautiful at the same time 🙂
Lovely. I like the first image better also. Amazing capture.
Thanks for providing your thoughts (and for choosing to reblog the posting). The positive response I have received me may prompt me to look a bit more carefully at the surroundings when I shoot–I have a tendency to want to zoom in as close as I can.
Well, your photos of birds are my favorites but this was stunning.
Reblogged this on White Rabbit's Gallery and commented:
I don’t usually reblog anymore–BUT when I do, it’s worth it! 😉
Wonderful. Beautiful and a little like science fiction:)
Thanks. It does look a little like another planet.
If we are encouraged to vote, mine too is for the first one. If I may make a suggestion, it would be to advise folks to click on an image for higher resolution–it really pays off on this one. Good stuff, Mike!
Thanks, Gary. I think that you were the one who advised me to post somewhat larger images and that has become my normal practice.
Almost looks like a painting, the sky is amazing!
Thanks. We’ve had so much gray weather recently that the sky seems unusually blue when the sun makes am appearance.
I like the first one too. It’s a really beautiful scene.
Mike,
Great eye and technique on this one. You really told a good story with these images. The leafless trees certainly add to the composition.
Thanks, Mel. I really wasn’t sure what I was doing when I shot this–if I hadn’t been in the midst of thorny bushes at the edge of a pond, I might have framed it a bit differently or tried to use my tripod. As it was, the moon moved behind the clouds shortly after I shot the images, so the moment was fleeting.
Brilliant piece of photography…Most unusual shot.!
Thanks. I was happy to be able to capture what my eye was seeing at that moment–a somewhat unusual view if the moon.
