The warmer weather seems to have brought out all of the critters in my marshland park, including what I think is a Common Five-Lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus). I don’t often see lizards around here, so I was particularly happy when this one slowly crawled down a tree, permitting me to get this shot.
I wonder why he was sticking out his tongue at me.

I had no idea what a skink was until now. The things you learn while blogging!!! Great shot! So much detail in the tree bark and his skin.
Thanks. I love textures and the sun was positioned to create some shadows, which added to the textures.
I learned of a skink as well. I almost thot it was a snake at first since the legs blended into the background.
Glad to help with your education. It’s gotten to the point where all I am seeing are insects and reptiles–I need to find some big mammals!
I’ve never heard of a skink either. I also didn’t know there were lizards in Virginia.
There is always so much to learn. I think that this one was about six inches long, bigger than the salamanders that I occasionally see.
A very nice study in earth-tones and textures. The little green leaf is a bonus highlight. As for why he’s sticking his tongue out at you, sometimes it’s better not to know everything.
