I love the triangular shape of Spiderwort plants (genus Tradescantia). I tend to think of spiderworts as being a bluish-purple in color, but was delighted to discover them blooming in a variety of colors during a recent visit to Green Spring Gardens, a county-run historical garden near where I live. I think my favorite color combination may be the one in the middle photo, with the white flowers and the purple “fuzz” in the center.

I have the first variety in my garden. The other two are stunning! The spiderworts are among my favorite. They are so pretty first thing in the morning!
I think the first one is the most common color, but I too find them to be really cool-looking , no matter what color they are-there is a real beauty in their simple geometric shape (as compared with the more complex curves of things like peonies and roses).
Yes! The shape is so unique and the shade of the flower is a great contrast against the green. I keep adding more and more to the garden. The bees and butterflies love them.
That is great to hear. I know that bees like them, but did not know that butterflies did too.
I look forward to these every year. They grow along our driveway and in a few other spots in the yard and attract, among others, Hover/Syrphid Flies. It’s a bonus that they come in so many flavors.
Happy, pretty flowers for sure!

Lovely delicate flowers. The middle one is my favourite- nice combination of colours.
Very nice Mike! Great Detail!
Thanks, Reed. Although I focus mostly on wildlife, it is nice to switch to flowers sometimes.
