I have not seen many baby birds this spring, so it was exciting to spot this little Canada Goose family last week swimming together in the waters off of Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) are so common where I live that many people consider them to be a nuisance, but I love to observe and photograph them.
Earlier this spring I noticed that a Canada Goose had established a nest on top of one of the wooden duck blinds and I wonder if these little goslings were hatched in that nest. Whatever the case, springtime is such a wonderful time to celebrate new life in all of its forms—and you have to admit that those three baby geese are really cute.

I love geese and thankfully this is something that I see often. We have Canada and Egyptian geese on my local lake which is 2 mins away from me. Last week I was lucky to see some almost just born goslings with their parents and some bigger ones too. They were gorgeous.
I have seen Egyptian geese a few times, but don’t think I have ever seen any babies. Baby ducks and geese are so cute and adorable, especially when they are really young. 🙂
Absolutely. I love them.
Once, while riding my bike on the Windsor Locks Canal trail, a mother and about 6 goslings crossed in front of me. I stopped and let them all get in the water, but the mother still chased me when I rode by. She was pecking at my foot as I finally got up enough speed to leave her. They are cute, but I’ll keep my distance.
Geese can be aggressive even when there are only adults. I have had them hiss at me when I got too close. When there are babies involved, I am sure they get even more protective.
Nice family portrait with the folks leading the way.
The goslings seemed well trained and followed right behind without wandering off.
And the young have a pretty strong instinct to stay close, at least it appears that way 😃 .
