Are you the kind of person who sees shapes in the clouds? If so, then perhaps you too may see the shape of a fire-breathing dragon in this amazing parrot tulip that I photographed yesterday in the garden of my dear friend Cindy Dyer. As more of Cindy’s parrot tulips pop open I am becoming convinced that these are the craziest flowers that I have encountered, with all kinds of wild shapes and colors.
I am equally convinced that we all need a little whimsy, fantasy, and child-like fascination in our daily lives. As adults we tend to take ourselves too seriously too often. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the world afresh as a child does, full of excitement and imagination?
Keep your eyes open today—you too might unexpectedly encounter a fire-breathing dragon or equally fanciful creature.

I can sort of see that 🙂
That’s the usual reaction, Dan, that I get from friends when I describe the things I see in the clouds. 🙂
I can see the dragon after you mentioned it but, initially, I just saw amazing beauty unfolding. You captured it perfectly with the subdued background and contrast to the tulip colors. Thank you
When I look at the close up yeah it is there. And it is too late to run. The WP reader does not do it justice until I click on the link. Thanks !
Parrot tulips are definitely wild… lovely in bud, full flower and even senescence. Hope you get to capture all stages!
The garden has a variety of parrot tulips in different colors and stages of development. I am really struck by the large size of the heads of these tulips and I will definitely be tracking their development.
Wow, opened full screen on the IPad. 👏👏👏
The image is pretty impressive in its detail, including the water drops on some of the petals. I love my macro lens.
Great image Mike! I do see shapes in the clouds! But never thought of shapes in flowers!! Know I will have to pay more attention to our gardens!
Thanks, Reed. I don’t consciously try to see shapes in things like flowers, but my mind and eyes tend to be pretty active and sometimes associations and analogies just pop up to the surface–one thing reminds me of another.
How cool! And yes, to be like a child and let our imaginations go crazy! 🙂
