A short while ago I did a posting of iris buds that offered a preview of coming attractions. Today I wanted to give you a quick look at some of the attractions that have already arrived. I like the yellow bearded irises that have started blooming in numbers, but I have to admit that I have really fallen in love with the violet one that is shown in the first photo below. It is the only one of its color that has opened so far, but there are several dozen more that should be appearing in the next week or two. I can hardly wait.

Your words and photos bring us closer to the magnificence of these bearded iris, Mike. I especially like how you captured the ruffles of the yellow one, and the tender softness of the purple one.
Thanks, Jet. As you might suspect, I took the photos on two different days, under very different lighting conditions. The ruffles show up so well because the sunlight was more direct, whereas the lighting on the purple one was more diffused by the clouds. I thought about posting the images separately, but decided that they work together pretty well as a set.
Beautiful images Mike!
Spectacular, Mike. The third is my favorite, even though it’s busier. And there’s a face in the upper right corner looking at the back side of the flower. I’m a sucker for pareidolia, as you know.
You grabbed my attention in two ways, Gary. First I had to check to make sure that I knew what pereidolia means and secondly I had to go look for the face to which you alluded. If we are talking about the same shape, I can see hair, eyes, cheeks, nose, and a chin.
Yup, sure sounds like the same shape that I saw. Once you start looking for them, they seem turn up in the most unlikely places! In fact, I should probably (re-) post a couple, just for fun…
You definitely should post some, Gary. I love the way that you can immediately recall come really cool photos you have taken, no matter what subject I might happen to bring up. I am especially when you can bring up photos that you shot in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Thanks for the strong suggestion to post more of the faces I’ve seen, Mike–I’ve just acted on it!
Nice posting from your treasure trove of images, Gary. I suspect you have many more that you could (and should) post. 🙂
