Beauty is everywhere. Thursday afternoon as I walked out of my suburban townhouse, I glanced at the crabapple tree in my front yard, now covered with blossoms. Realizing how beautiful it is, I captured this simple image.
You don’t always have to go to distant locations to find beauty—you can often find it in your back yard or, in my case, in your front yard.

They sure are beautiful.
Thanks. Most of the time I think of that tree as a nuisance–it grows too fast and has to be pruned and the little crabapples are messy when they fall. I guess it helps to look at “normal” things with new eyes, which I think the current crisis is causing us to do.
Sure enough and the birds adore crabapples here as winter sets in 🙂
That is so beautiful with the pink sky in the background. What a lovely way to start the day! Really boosts the spirit. Thank you
Thanks, Ann. I think the pink is caused by distant petals that were out of focus, but I agree that it is amazing. When I took the shot, I was mostly trying to just include the sky and it came out better than I had imagined.
The pink and pale blue make a pleasant combination.
Baby colors 🙂
And did you know that throughout the first half of the 20th century it was blue for girls and pink for boys?
Wow! I didn’t know that. I knew that the gender for some first names had changed and my male friends Ashley and Courtney are now outnumbered by their female counterparts.

Fascinating article, Steve. Thanks for sharing.
Very nicely done, Mike. The background blooms with bits of blue sky peeking through are a great complement for the twig of flowers.
[…] I would do it again. Earlier this morning I did the “beauty” part with a shot of some crabapple blossoms in my front yard. For the “beast” part, I decided to feature this shot of a little […]
Beautiful shot, Mike. Really like the colours in the bokeh. Lovely subject and beautiful details captured in the main subject.
I haven’t seen a crabapple blossom in years — thanks for sharing.
So beautiful!
There is a Crabapple tree in the side yard of a house in a cul-de-sac that is across and clearly visible from my house. It is a thing of beauty when the blossoms are open but as of yet they remain tight buds. The only thing more beautiful than your photo is your photo enlarged! Thank-you, Mr. Mike!
Thanks, Ellen. We’re still ahead of you season-wise, I guess. Some of the blossoms of the crabapple tree are now strewn over the ground, thanks to occasional rain and wind.
It looks like a fine painting, Mike.
Thanks, Dan. The pink and blue seems to work well together with the beautiful accents of green. I couldn’t have done better if I had picked the colors myself like I would have done with a painting.
It might be a nice photo to copy
Lovely capture, Mike. The soft pink background creates a lovely atmosphere.
Thanks, Eliza. It is interesting that I have received more favorable comments about the background than about the main subject itself. I guess it shows why it is important to pay a lot of attention to all of the elements in an image. 🙂
We had a flowering crab in the garden of the house we rented in Virginia and were always enthralled when it came into blossom each spring. What a great memory, Mike-thanks for the wonderful flashback!
Thanks, Gary. It is amazing how short-lived the blossoms are. All it seems to take is a rainstorm or a lot of wind and suddenly the ground is covered in petals.
Stunning photo Mike, absolutely gorgeous! Love spring blossom 🙂
Thanks, Liz. As our bright colors continue to shine as we move deeper into spring, I hope to continue to celebrate this new life and growth in my photos.
