Female Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) do not stand out as much as their bright red male counterparts, but their beauty is at a minimum comparable, albeit in a more dignified and understated way. The male cardinal is like a loud, raucous call, while the female is more like a soft, seductive whisper.

Great photos, Mike. Thanks for giving Mrs. Cardinal equal time.
Wonderful pics and I love your description of the difference between the male and female cardinals. 🙂
Thanks. My writing tends to be a reflection of my thoughts and more importantly my feelings at that very moment. I don’t usually plan the words in advance, so my “voice” when I write is pretty much the same as when I am speaking.
🙂
I don’t plan in advance either most of the time, I sit down at the computer and just write whatever comes out. 🙂
What a lovely poetical comparison of the equally lovely Ms.Cardinal. I’ve always been fond of the female Cardinal’s more muted red coloration of the wings and tail feathers. Benjamin is sure to enjoy these beautiful photos tomorrow. Thank-you, Mr. Mike!!
My mood influences the way that I write my postings. Most of the time I don’t plan in advance what I am going to say and I just sit down and start to write. You’ve seen enough of my postings to know what a more “typical” post looks like. I was feeling kind of mellow and contemplative when I wrote this one.
Beautiful shots.
Thanks. I love cardinals all year, but especially in the winter.
Before I even read a word Benjamin exclaimed : “Pretty lady Cardinals!” I am so proud of what he retains and recalls about the many birds that we see here and out on our “adventurings”! He also added : “Don’t forget the black seeds for her, she will love them!” Thank-you, Mr. Mike!!
Very nice images Mike! Enjoyed seeing them!
Nice captures and a nice specimen, Mike. A lot of Cardinals I see seem to be on the “disheveled” side—not sure why.
Love cardinals. 🙂
Makes me wonder if I have ever heard the female!?!
