No trip to Brussels is complete without a visit to see the statue of the Manneken Pis, the little boy that is one of the symbols of the city. Yesterday he was dressed in a costume that I have not yet been able to identify, but looks Scottish to me.
The little boy has hundreds of different costumes that he wears on special occasions, but the poor fit of this one makes me wonder if it might be an “unofficial” costume that was put on the statue as a prank.

What a peculiar costume for him to don. The motto “Nemo me impune lacessit” is one I associate with the Royal Stuarts and a few of the Scottish regiments. It is also referenced in the Poe story ‘The Cask of Amontillado’ but that is by the by. I imagine it is also used by the Belgian military but the thistle and kilt make me think the costume is definitely Scottish. I am just not very good at recognising motifs. I am pretty sure that is a Stewart/Stuart tartan too. So my comment really doesn’t help at all in the end. Ha ha!
