Do you like clams? I don’t care for them much, but this Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) really seemed to be enjoying the one it found when I spotted it this past weekend on the shore at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. As the tide was going out there seemed to be quite a few partially opened clams on which the gulls were feasting.

Old Orchard was one of my favorite placess in Maine. Have you gone a few miles south to Pine Point Beach ? It’s another favorite place to be.
My parents retired to Ocean Park, an area just south of OOB. I’ve visited some in the local area of Saco and Biddeford, but never made it to Pine Point Beach.
It’s not south, it’s north and a few minutes drive. You can also reach it by walking a quarter mile up the beach from the pier on OOB
I’ve usually stopped my walks at the pier–the fried dough has always called out to me like a siren’s call. 🙂
I’ve eaten a lot of that dough. !
Pine Point has a sandbar that is exposed during low tides. Sometimes you can walk pretty far out.
