At first I thought it was only a leaf blowing in the breeze and then I slowly came to realize that it was a Common Buckeye butterfly (Junonia coenia), an unexpected sight in mid-November.
Although faded and tattered, this survivor butterfly is still spectacular, despite its “common” name.

No wonder you thought that it was a leaf -so well comauflaged
It looks like it’s been through a lot, with its tattered wings.
Definitely a survivor.
I wonder how much food it’s finding this late in the year. Probably not much.
I suspect that foraging is tough for this survivor, though we have had temperatures in the 60’s much of this week.
