Most of the tree frogs that I have seen until now have been lime green, but the one that I saw on Friday was a much darker shade of green. I am pretty sure, though, that he is a Green Treefrog (Hyla cinerea) and he was in a very familiar pose, comfortably napping during the heat of the day.
He was a pretty good distance away, perched on a small tree (or maybe a bush) in the partial shade, but luck was with me, because the sunlight was shining on him. I had a telephoto lens on my camera and managed to get a pretty good shot without scaring him away.
I left the frog thinking that he probably had the right approach—a nap sounded like a good idea.

Amazing shot taken! Great.
That’s an excellent shot. I’ve never seen one that color-he does seem quite dark.
great photo mike, is this taken at huntley meadow?
Yes it was. I took at the far end of the boardwalk past the observation tower (not far from all the construction).
Excellent shot, reminds me of Kermit..:-)
Great photo, I really like tree frogs, Annie
Me too. This summer I have been thrilled to see a number of them. Last year, when I first started shooting seriously, I didn’t see any at all.
I really like your tree frog shots. In part because I’ve never seen one and of course because they are really good. They are best served in smaller quantities though since they tend to make me sleepy.
They all seem to be snoozing when I try to photograph them. I did a little research and it seems that Saskatchewan has a total of seven species of amphibians, with only one of them being a tree frog, the Boreal Chorus Frog. I guess that’s why you’ve never seen one.
Interesting. Now you know more about frogs in SK than I do!
That is one gorgeous frog, and the exposure is just perfect. Great shot.
