Spring is not here yet, but we had a foretaste of its pleasures yesterday, when the skies were sunny and the temperature rose to 60 degrees (15.5 degrees C). As I was walking along the Potomac River, I encountered a group of American Robins (Turdus migratorius), a traditional harbinger of spring, and got these shots.
Today is about twenty degrees colder and there’s a possibility of snow showers later in the day. Spring has not yet arrived, but we are moving inexorably toward the moment when winter finally gives way to spring.

the blue in the background really adds to the photos and the tree is a perfect frame for a bird whose beautiful colors are too often taken for granted by those who often see them. 🙂
It was beautiful here too. I’m seeing robins all over the place, but do you think one of them will sit still long enough to have its portrait taken? No way.
Trust me, I have lots of missed shots. It’s one of the real challenges of trying to photograph birds. Of course the inability to frame the shot is a “challenge” too.
Nice photos of the robins! We seem to have missed the robins here this year. Usually we have a noisy flock come through and stay for a day or two picking berries on their way north, but this year I haven’t seen any.
