In a moment of calm amidst the storms this past Monday, I captured this shot of a beautiful little Cabbage White butterfly (Pieris rapae) in the garden of my neighbor and fellow photographer Cindy Dyer. The shot is a little grainy, because there was not a great deal of light, but somehow the image fills me with an overwhelming sense of serenity.

The veins on the wings and the outer “fringe” are so clear in the photo. The veins almost look like pleats. If you hadn’t mentioned the “serenity” thing I wouldn’t have bothered looking at the large-view; I’m glad I did!
Thanks, Liz. Zooming like that also lets you see additional details, like the spectacular speckled green eyes of this tiny beauty and the extended proboscis that is probing the flower.
