Missing the point

I don’t know about you, but if I were an insect with large, fragile wings, I think that I would avoid perching on vegetation with large thorns. This male Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly (Erythemis simplicicollis), however, is obviously bolder and more skilled than I am. With precision flying skills matching the parking abilities of an inner city driver, he has managed to squeeze into a space that seems barely large enough to accommodate him.

Pointless perching—that seems to be the point.

    I’m so glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for letting me know! I treasure photographer’s shots because things are so changeable in nature, just with changes in light, weather, seasons, etc Each photo is a special record of how some thing or some place was viewed in that particular moment and I treasure the moments 🙂

I had a good laugh when I saw this one! Great photo and well titled. Dragonflies really are amazing creatures, very agile, as this photo obviously shows. 🙂

  Thanks, Todd. I love playing with words, but I wondered how many others would “get it.” Dragonflies are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. There is something almost magical about their beauty and acrobatic skills in the air.

  Thanks. For me these dragonflies are somewhat ordinary and it was nice to one in a somewhat different way. Someday, perhaps, I’ll get to see and photograph some of the more exotic creatures that you feature in you photos.
