Do you pay any attention to the nondescript little birds pecking about in the underbrush? Do you even notice them?
I love trying to capture images of impressive, powerful hawk, owls, and eagles. There is no denying their beauty. However, I’ll also stop and try to get a glimpse of the small birds too, for I have learned that they have a special beauty all their own.
I am especially happy when I can get an unobstructed view of one of them, like this Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) that I spotted yesterday at my local marshland park.
The beautiful little wren seems full of personality and exudes a positive, happy attitude.
Don’t let that beauty go unnoticed.

I must confess that I am much more excited by visits from blue jays and woodpeckers and cardinals than I am by all the “little brown dudes” who also show up at my feeders. It’s not that I don’t appreciate them but they don’t offer the same visual feast. I will strive to appreciate them more.
I think things are a little different when you have a feeder–it is natural that the brightly colored birds attract the eyes more when they are out in the open. When I am in the woods, though, more of my senses are engaged as I hear the calls of the birds and see and hear the rustling of the brush. I am intrigued to know what is making the commotion and by the challenge of capturing images of these little birds. From a distance, they are kind of grab, but when I can get a close-up shot, their beauty is much more apparent.
Actually yes that is true for us too. You are quite right. When we are out for a walk, we are happy for any sort of encounter and love seeing the little birds. Heck, my youngest still gets excited by slaters (I guess you call them woodlice?). Bird calls are still something I need to learn.
Beautiful capture. I love wrens and we have loads of sparrows in our garden. The little birds provide us with hours of entertainment. Amelia
A striking photo of the singing Carolina wren, Mike — they flit about so quickly, and although their song is always a joy, they are not easy to capture. Wonderful post.
Thanks, Jet. It’s amazing how much beauty surrounds us. I love to remind others periodically about the benefits of slowing down and observing our surroundings. There is so much beauty that we never see because we are in a hurry.
I do agree with you, even small birds seem full of personality.

Heart-WRENching narrative, Mike! 😉
Ouch!
A very special spirit to that wren!
Thanks so much. I love it when I manage to get a glimpse of the personality of an individual bird.
I do pay attention to the small birds, especially chickadees which always seem to be vying for attention as they fly through the woods just beside the trail. I’d like to see a wren like this one though, it’s a beauty!
