It looks like a columbine that hadn’t fully opened. I’m not sure if it’s a native plant or introduced though.
I suspect that it was introduced. I took the photo at a botanical gardens and they had some pretty exotic looking columbines, including some that look like they were double in size.

The very new columbine flowers in my yard are also pink just before they open. I suspect if you went back and found it (might be hard to do), it would be brilliantly red now.
