While at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond,Virginia last weekend, I visited the butterfly house. It was hot and really humid inside of the glassed-in conservatory, but it was worth it to be surrounded by all of the colorful, exotic butterflies. Normally, I try to identify the species that I photograph, but in this case I neglected to photograph the placards inside the butterfly house. My brain is full enough trying to remember the species indigenous to my area, so perhaps viewers can forgive me and simply enjoy the delicate beauty of these amazing creatures.

Sounds like a fun trip!
There were four of us who piled in the car with all of our camera gear for the expedition. We split up when we reached the large garden and pursued our individual interests. It was fun to compare what we had captured after a couple of hours of shooting.
Can I ask a technical question? What widget are you using for the slide show? That’s one of the best I’ve seen. (The pictures are beautiful too).
I’m nor really using any widgets for that. When I went to add photos, I clicked the button that says “create gallery” and select the photos you want to use. You have the option to have the photos show as thumbnails or as a mosaic (as I chose to do). You have to save the post and use Preview to see how WP is going to arrange the photos. If you don’t like the arrangement, you can edit the gallery (by clicking on a photo and then clicking on the pencil tool) and move around the photos to get one you like better.
Thanks! I’ll have to give that a try. My next post has quite a few pictures and I’ve been dreading trying to figure out how to arrange them.
Give it a shot and see how it goes. If you have quite a few photos, you might want to break them up into several galleries.
Thanks. I always include one or two pictures, but every now and then I have a bunch and it has always been a challenge to get the aligned the way I want. I’ve seen “gallery” but I never checked it out.
They’re each works of art!
Really nice shots, my personal fave is the black one with red flecks on the wings.
How can one not love butterfly enclosures?!
It was hot and steamy and full of people–but I still loved it, thanks to the amazingly beautiful butterflies.
We don’t have such beautifull butterflies in the Netherlands ofcourse. Verry nice to see, and such nice photo’s of them.

I wish we had such beautiful butterflies outdoors here, but these were in an indoor space and I think they are native to South America and some places in Asia.
They really are beautiful!
Beautiful creatures ad lovely pics Mike.
Beautiful work – a pleasure to view your posts!
Thanks for your visit!
Thanks. I shoot mostly insects in the summer, but in the fall and winter tend to migrate toward birds.
So glad I’m not the only one that gets excited in seeing new things and forgetting to take notes as to what they are. What lovely flutterbys you got to enjoy.
I don’t blame you for not trying to identify them. It sometimes takes me ages to identify just one flower.
