This large bullfrog was so content in the mud that he did not budge at all when I moved closer to take this shot. Compared to the tiny tree frogs that I have been photographing recently, this frog seemed enormous.
The mud may not be the best backdrop for a photo, but I like the way that the image has become a study in greens and browns, with a golden eye as a accent.

Love the frog. What’s his name? I’m thinking Curley.
Thanks–I like Curley. You are much better at naming the critters in your blog than I am.
simply superb capture …
Thanks. Most of the time the frogs are more hidden or hop away when I get near to them.
The mud works well since you appeared to wash off his face and a few nearby plants.
It’s hard to clean up a frog for a photo shoot. It’s like working with a toddler–you turn your back and the next thing you know they are playing in the mud.
I like that shot. Soon he’ll be burrowing into the mud for his long winter nap.
Looks like this frog is ready to burrow in for the winter.
