This past weekend I saw more hawks than I have ever encountered before. I am not sure if some are migrating through the area or if the ones already here were more active than before.
This hawk, who looks to be immature, was sitting on a tree limb across a small field from me and I was able to get shots of him a few different positions. I need to figure out a way to get closer to him or use a longer lens in order to get clearer images, but I am still at a stage in my photographic journey at which I am excited to take any photos of hawks and eagles in which they are recognizable. As some readers are well aware, I have been trying to take photos of birds in flight and I managed one so-s0 image of this hawk when he flew away.

Nice shots especially those of it perched in the tree. I think it’s a Red-tailed Hawk which we see plenty this time of year, but yeah, usually tough to get very close.
Thanks, Joe. At the moment my best approach is be out and about as much as I can and good things often happen. Better equipment won’t help much if I stay indoors.
I like these photos a lot. I am in the same boat as you.. wanting to get closer or a more powerful lens to get closer for me, we will get there I am sure
Agree, good shot! If Sydney happens to see this, he’ll be jumping high up to the sky!
nice photos! lucky you to get it in flight, I find that they take off too fast for me to focus on them.. could you get a converter for your telephoto lens so that it would be longer?
Thanks, Vicki. With the telephoto lens that I have, I am not sure a teleconverter would work. I think I need to work on technique a bit more and soon I may upgrade my equipment too. The past seven months has shown me that this is something I’m likely to stick with.
