Although I already posted a photo earlier today of a Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia) in the snow, I came across one I liked even more as I was going through yesterday’s images. This sparrow (and I am never certain of my sparrow identifications) seemed to be posing for me. Somehow I was able to capture details in its eyes that I have never seen before.
After our brief portrait session, the sparrow hurried back to work.

Beautiful Mike. I pinned and scooped it (http://scoop.it/t/ecoscifi). Gives some balance and purpose to the other nature news. Thank you.
Nice shot. It looks like he found a nice sunny spot.
Nice shot, Mike, and it’s almost certainly a Song Sparrow with that distinctive dark patch on the breast.
Both sparrow captures, very nice! I was out walking early this morning and had several flitting in and out of the bushes, but they were always behind a branch so I’m pretty sure I didn’t get a decent shot. I’ll find out later today! Glad to see the little fellas out and about and the temps have climbed some for them all to find food.
The snow makes a wonderful backdrop.
The snow is a rarity for me, so I have to take advantage of it while it is here (it is raining out today and most of the snow will probably be gone by morning). I suspect you have a lot more practice getting correct exposures in a snowy environment (this one was overexposed initially)
The sparrow sure did know how to pose for what you needed.
Oh yes, THIS is how a good bird photograph should look!! (see failed attempts in my post today..) Nice one, Mike! 🙂
Thanks, Camilla. I am amazingly persistent in getting shots of birds and have more than my fair share of luck.
