Late September Viceroy
September 25, 2013 by Mike Powell
The days are getting cooler and leaves are starting to wither and fall, but there are still signs of the lingering summer, like this beautiful Viceroy butterfly (Limenitis archippus) that I photographed this past weekend.

I saw what I hoped was a monarch last week but it moved too fast to confirm it. I wonder where they all are?
I’m not sure. I don’t think that I have seen a single Monarch this year, though this summer I haven’t visited the county gardens very often where I saw them last year.
I like how you keep finding sparks of color and summer even as the autumn approaches.
I’m looking pretty closely for these kinds of things when I have my camera in hand, especially when I have my macro lens on it.
It shows! So glad you are, as the photos are a treat to see.
Full value for the colour there – great shot.
Terrific shot!
An amazing shot – so much detail
Thanks. The lighting was nice at the time, which really helped.
