It’s not hard to see where this dragonfly gets its name—the Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina)—when it is perched on the very tip of a stalk of grass and is blown about by even the slightest wind.
I took this shot from a very low angle to try to show the sky and I am pretty happy with the way in which I was able to separate the dragonfly from the background.

wonderful shot, love it!!
Thanks. I don’t often see it, but the Halloween Pennant dragonfly is my favorite dragonfly. I love its colors and the pattern on its wings.
Now this is a good shot of a dragonfly!!
Thanks. I love dragonflies and was happy to get this shot by laying down in the grass and shooting up.
The eyes work magic !
Perfect shot !

Thanks. I am pretty happy with the way the shot turned out, thought there is always room for improvement.
I like the way he seems to be looking at the camera. Beautiful shot.
Thanks. Most of my dragonfly shots are more cluttered and it’s hard to make the the dragonfly stand out. I think the dragonfly may well have been paying some attention to me, given the length of time that I stalked him and the number of shots that I took.
love the textured blurred background here — great capture
Very nice! Holding on with all sixes.
Lovely capture! I especially love his (her?) little red “headlights” at the tips of the wings.
Help me. Help me, please. I can’t hold on much longer. : )
It looks like you nailed that shot. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together?
Beautiful capture!
Thanks. When I first spotted that dragonfly, I had in mind the angle at which I hoped to photograph it, and the plan actually worked out pretty well, despite the fact the dragonfly flew away a few times. However, he returned to the same spot, so I was able to resume shooting.
